Sightseeing – Sofia city OR the Rila Monastery

We have arranged two sightseeing tours, which you can book in addition to the registration.
If you choose to participate in the tours you will be contacted by our team. The payment will be handled during the online registration.
Please note if you have booked a tour and cannot participate we might still need to ask you to pay for it, if we cannot sell your seat to somebody else.

Programme
13:00 - Departure to Rila Monastery – Located 120 km from Sofia.
14:30 - Arrival at Rila mountain.
Situated at an altitude of 1147 meters, the monastery is located on the right bank of the river Rila and is a unique architectural, historical and cultural monument of Bulgaria from the time of the Renaissance. Rila Monastery, known also as the Holy Rila monastery over the centuries, has played an outstanding role in Bulgarian history in the struggle of the Bulgarian people for their spiritual and political freedom. It was founded in the 10th century from St. Ivan Rilski, while the modern monastery was built in the period from 1816–1847 from Renaissance masters. In the central church "Virgin Birth" there are relics of St. Ivan Rilski. In the courtyard is a "fortress tower" with its famous crypt "Transfiguration."
As a monument of exceptional importance and value, the monastery was included in the list of monuments of culture under the protection of UNESCO.
